Update from Dr. Lester

I love fall!

I love the crisp mornings and cooler evenings; the changing colors and the gorgeous blue skies. To me it is also a time to reflect a little on a new school year. This year is especially reflective for us as we anticipate a site visit by our professional body CCNE, later on in October.

As I put together the self-study, in spite of the work, it was a time to review and reflect on nursing at NNU. I reviewed so much evidence that spoke to the wonderful programs we are privileged to participate in. At the same time I was conscious of the responsibility of ensuring academic rigor, maintenance of professional standards, and service to the community with whom we engage.

I thought about so many of you over the last decade, pondering what you are doing now, where you are placed and what God has spoken into your individual lives and I have to admit it gave me pause to be thankful and even somewhat proud. Thank you for being part of the journey in nursing at NNU.

The accreditation visit is October 21st – 23rd; there will be four visitors as they are reviewing all three programs. Please pray for faculty as we host the visit that we will be calm and gracious. In spite of knowing that we work to the standards set and to maintain our values and mission, it is a stressful time.

I have been delighted to welcome back as faculty, Dr. Bethany Mello who will be heading up the Family Nurse Practitioner program next fall. I just love that some of our graduates have chosen to take up the educator mantle at NNU.
