New Faculty in Nursing

Published on Oct 13, 2015.
This fall the Nursing Department welcomes Bethany Mello DNP, NP-c to the Director of the Family Nurse Practitioner Program faculty position. Bethany is a 2003 graduate of the Bachelor of Science, Nursing degree program at Northwest Nazarene University. After graduation from NNU, she and her husband, Stacey, moved to Jamestown, North Dakota where Bethany began her career in a small rural hospital mainly on the medical/surgical floor. As the need arose, she also worked in the ED, surgery center, post-partum, and ICU.

While Bethany loved working as a registered nurse, she had a passion for teaching. She returned to school and earned her Master of Science in Nursing in 2006 with a Specialization in Nursing Education and began teaching Child and Adult Health I and II at the University of Jamestown. Desiring to pursue excellence as a nurse and educator, Bethany obtained a Doctorate in Nursing Practice/Family Nurse Practitioner from North Dakota State University in 2011. During this time she continued to teach at the University of Jamestown and started practicing part-time as a Family Nurse Practitioner at the Anne Carlsen Center in Jamestown. The Anne Carlsen Center is a home for severely disabled children and children with severe behavioral problems. She also worked as a Family Planning Nurse Practitioner for Central Valley Public Health in Jamestown.

Bethany and Stacey have two adopted children, Madelyn (7) and Briar (3). Maddy and Briar keep Bethany and her husband quite busy! Maddy is involved in gymnastics as a Level II competitor at Mountain West Gymnastics in Boise and she also is playing soccer. Briar tags along to all of his big sister’s practices and games and can hardly wait until he’s old enough to do the same! Maddy and Briar keep Bethany involved in community activities, as well. Bethany has taught Maddy and Briar’s Sunday
